Saturday 9th April - Result

Chadlington First Team finally put in the home performance they had been threatening to all season on Saturday as they thumped Bampton United in Division One.

It was a reverse result after Bampton had won by the same score line against Chad earlier in the season.

There was however to be no repeat of that result as Chad instantly took a grip of the game and fought hard throughout.

The goals flowed too as Rocky Burton ran rampant at the Bampton defence. They simply couldn’t handle him and he secured his hat trick with a second half penalty.

Toby Walker had opened the scoring with a header inside the box from a fine Hans Korge corner. Ethan Bennett also had his shooting boots on and grabbed a goal in the first half as Chad went in to halftime 4-0 up.

Chad expected a Bampton backlash but after just 5 minutes that was snuffed out when Hans Korge got on the scoresheet also, firing home wide on the left.

All round the pitch Chad were working hard and as a team. Will Foster in goal was faultless and the centre of midfield of Tate and Newton Grain created a wall in front of the impressive back three of Aaron Bennett, Daniel Cleevely and Toby Walker. This allowed Ethan Bennett to command the game and set Chad on their way countless times. Lee Woodward and Hans Korge out wide put in selfless performances by working backwards and forwards all afternoon.

Upfront Rocky Burton was a constant handful and he was joined in the first half by veteran Sean Bennett who’s experience successfully linked up the play.

This was the first time in a competitive game that Sean with his two sons, Ethan and Aaron had played in the same side. Congratulations to them!

Josh Betts and Adam Tinkham were also introduced in the second half to boost the side and keep the intensity high.

At full time the score was 6-1 and it was thoroughly deserved. The win lifts Chad back up to fourth in Division One. If they win or avoid defeat against Wootton Sports next week it is a position they are likely to stay in.

Team: Foster, Cleevely (c), A Bennett, T Walker, Korge, Woodward, Tate, Newton Grain, E Bennett, S Bennett, Burton. Subs: Hazlewood, Tinkham, Betts.
